What is family mediation?
Family mediation is a voluntary, confidential process in which an accredited, neutral and impartial mediator helps you and the other parent reach agreements that reflect your needs and, above all, your children’s : custody and parenting time, support, and the division of property.
Hours paid by the government. Through Quebec’s Family Mediation Program, a couple with dependent children receives 5 free hours for a first mediation and 2.5 hours to review an agreement after a judgment ; a couple without dependent children is entitled to 3 hours for a first mediation. Frequently asked questions
How many hours are subsidized?
With dependent children: 5 hours for a first mediation and 2.5 hours for a review after judgment. Without dependent children: 3 hours for a first mediation. Beyond that, the government rate applies. These conditions can change; we confirm them with you.
Do I need to have children to qualify?
No. Couples without dependent children are also entitled to subsidized hours (3 hours) for a first mediation.
Is mediation mandatory?
The process is voluntary. It is, however, strongly encouraged and is often faster and less costly than a trial.
Is it confidential?
Yes. Discussions in mediation are confidential, which supports open dialogue.
Do you offer mediation online?
