What is occupational therapy in mental health?
Occupational therapy is the health profession that places activity at the heart of care: looking after yourself, working, studying, enjoying life. In mental health, the occupational therapist helps you re-engage in the activities that matter to you, at home, at work or in the community, despite anxiety, burnout, depression, ADHD or other mental health challenges.
A regulated profession. In Québec, occupational therapy is regulated by the Ordre des ergothérapeutes du Québec (OEQ). At Clinique Octobre, occupational therapy services are provided by an occupational therapist who is a member in good standing of the OEQ.
What occupational therapy can help you accomplish
Return to or remain at work
Appropriate strategies and adaptations to go back to work or stay at work, at your own pace.
Restore routine and purpose
Rebuild a stable routine and a sense of purpose in your daily life.
Build practical tools
Manage stress, regulate emotions and support your day-to-day functioning.
Strengthen motivation and confidence
Regain momentum and confidence in your everyday activities.
Overcome barriers
Identify what is holding back your well-being and autonomy, then overcome it step by step.
This service is ideal for anyone navigating a life transition, work-related stress or medical leave, or seeking practical, personalized support for daily functioning.
Medical leave and return to work
The occupational therapist is a key professional in returning to work after a mental health related leave, such as burnout, an anxiety disorder or depression. Starting from an assessment of your abilities and the demands of your job, she builds a gradual return-to-work plan and concrete strategies with you. With your consent, she can collaborate with your physician, employer or insurer to support a lasting return.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a medical referral?
No. You can book occupational therapy directly, no referral needed.
What is the difference between occupational therapy and psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy works mainly on thoughts and emotions. Occupational therapy targets concrete day-to-day functioning: routine, energy, work and meaningful activities. The two are complementary and can be combined.
Can occupational therapy help me during a medical leave?
Yes. The occupational therapist supports a gradual resumption of activities and prepares a lasting return to work, in collaboration with your physician, employer or insurer when relevant.
Does my insurance cover occupational therapy?
Many group insurance plans cover services provided by an OEQ member occupational therapist. Check the terms of your plan with your insurer; an official receipt is provided.
Do you offer occupational therapy online?
Yes, by secure videoconference anywhere in Québec, and in person at our Laval office (3131, boul. de la Concorde Est, bureau 502).
In which languages is the service offered?
In French and English.
