Therapy and services in Arabic in Laval
At Clinique Octobre you can be seen in Arabic, French or English. Social work, family mediation, neuropsychology and occupational therapy, in person in Laval or by teleconsultation anywhere in Quebec.
Get in touchWhy the language changes the outcome
Talking about your mental health in a language you learned later is not just less comfortable. It is less precise. And in an assessment, precision is what separates a solid report from a contestable one.
The vocabulary of emotion
The words for shame, grief, anger or anxiety do not translate one for one. In their own language, a person says what they mean the first time.
Family context
Roles within a family, expectations, the place of elders and the way a conflict is named all vary. Understanding them prevents misreading a situation.
The quality of the assessment
An assessment rests on what the person manages to express. Removing the language barrier removes a source of error.
No outside interpreter
The service is delivered in Arabic directly by the team, without bringing a third person into a confidential exchange.
What you can do in Arabic
Every service at the clinic is offered in all three languages. Here is what that covers in practice.
Psychosocial evaluation
Tutorship to a person of full age, protection mandate, temporary representation. An activity reserved exclusively to social workers. See Psychosocial evaluation.
Family mediation
Custody, parenting time and financial support, with access to the government-paid hours if you are eligible. See Family mediation.
Therapy and follow-up
Individual, couples or teen follow-up. See Individual therapy and Couples therapy.
Neuropsychology and occupational therapy
Cognitive functioning in adults, and support during a work leave. See Neuropsychology and Occupational therapy.
What that means, and what it does not mean
We would rather be clear, because trust is built on this.
The clinic offers professional services governed by Quebec's professional orders, in Arabic as much as in French and English. The team is attentive to each person's cultural, family and religious realities, without presuming them. This is not a religious counselling service.
How to start
Three steps, and you do not need to know in advance which professional to consult.
Write to us in the language you prefer
By form or by phone. Describe the situation and above all the goal: ongoing therapy, a report for the court, a separation agreement, an assessment.
We confirm who can see you
We check the discipline, the language and, where it applies, your eligibility for the government-paid mediation hours.
First meeting
In person at the Laval office or by teleconsultation anywhere in Quebec, in Arabic, French or English.
Frequently asked questions
Can my whole follow-up be in Arabic?
Yes. Meetings can be held in Arabic, French or English, in person in Laval or by teleconsultation anywhere in Quebec.
Are reports written in Arabic?
No. Meetings happen in the language you choose, but official documents such as a report for the court or an insurer are produced in French or English, depending on what the receiving body requires.
Do you offer religious counselling?
No. We offer professional services governed by Quebec's professional orders. Our team is attentive to each person's cultural, family and religious realities, without presuming them and without imposing a religious framework.
Is family mediation available in Arabic?
Yes, like the other services. If you are eligible for Quebec's Family Mediation Service, the government-paid hours apply in exactly the same way.
Do I need to speak French or English to consult?
Not for the meeting itself. That said, some administrative or court documents will be given to you in French or English, and we take the time to explain them.
How do I know who will see me?
Write to us describing your situation and your goal. We confirm who on the team can see you in the language you want and for that type of request.
Let us talk in your language
Describe your situation and your goal. We will point you to the right professional, in Laval or by teleconsultation.
